Excellent charcoal starter
I recently replaced my 15 year old charcoal chimney starter with this new Expert Grill Chimney Starter. It's a great improvement from the older one I had. (Different brand) The heat guard plate (to protect you from radiant heat while using the handle) is slightly taller than the my older one. The handle itself is plastic (older one is wood), but a lot thicker for a better grip and less wobble. A vast improvement is the basket that holds the charcoal. The bottom of the basket has larger holes, and the cylindrical chimney is also perforated resulting in a better draft and faster heating times. The description states it holds three pounds of charcoal briquettes; this isn't enough to spread on a large bbq grill to cook large portions, but more than enough for a small grill to cook one slab of ribs, or three good-sized ribeyes. (If you have a larger grill, once these briquettes are all hot and gray, just lay more charcoal on them in your grill, wait a few more minutes and you're ready to go!) This chimney is a better way to get your charcoal hot and ready; more efficient than dousing the briquettes with charcoal fluid. Below the charcoal basket is your fuel holder; plenty of room to place wadded up, twisted newspaper and small twigs to get a fire going. The holes along the perimeter of the firebox is large enough to insert butane torch to light. Overall, this chimney is well made; the rivets that hold the cylinder together are tight, and the handle doesn't wobble.GotRice
Easy and convenient way to start your BBQ
I was skeptical that I could light my coals without lighter fluid, but I was wrong. I filled the top section with coals, added crumpled paper underneath, lit the paper and 15-20 minutes later we had perfectly lit coals. The only cons were that there were some sparks, especially when dumping the coals into the BBQ. Practice safety and I doubt you will have any issues. A great grill chimney and definitely something I would recommend to a friend.Belle
No need for toxic lighter fluid!
Place the paper at the bottom, fill to the top (don't over-fill) with your choice of charcoal, light the paper with a long lighter, and wait about 10 minutes for all the coals to glow. Pour coals out in the appropriate area and you're ready!
