This is an excellent 2-in-1 laptop.
This is a fast laptop with an Intel I5 chip operating on a solid-state 256GB hard drive. It loads lightning fast because of this. The screen is excellent. If you are streaming, the picture is excellent at all angles, not like some laptops that look dim if not watched head-on. I really enjoy the touchscreen and the ability to use it as a tablet, folding the keyboard section underneath to easily prop up the laptop to watch video. Or in tent mode. It's fairly light weight and never gets hot. 256GB may seem like a small hard drive, but I plug in a 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive for more room (though I still have over 150GB on the internal drive). Response is very fast. My only minor complaint is the keyboard. There was plenty of room to add a 10-key numeric pad, but it lacks that. Otherwise, perfect. One suggestion: disable SmartByte if you are having slow wifi. Also there is no ethernet connection, a minor issue especially because the wifi card is blazing fast.Jeff in Tucson
Good computer, but need new charger
Overall, I enjoy this computer, but anyone who buys this computer needs to buy a 65w charger. The laptop comes with a 45w battery charger and the laptop will eventually stop charging with it, so that's why a new a charger is needed.justanotherman
the 1tb hard drive is a 5400rpm disk. you will be pulling your hair out waiting for windows to load and idle at 100% disk usage. avoid this and any laptop with a Disk drive as almost all manufactures cheap out and put the 5400 rpm version. If you are buying an i7 laptop, don't cheap out on the drive (SSDs are getting much cheaper and there is very little reason for a disk drive at this level)
Performance of this laptop is unacceptable. If you are tech savy, this isn't a bad deal to upgrade with an SSD, 8 more GBs of Ram, and restore the OS; otherwise, keep shoppingChris
Just what I was looking for
My old computer locked up right in the middle of completing my 2018 Tax Return!!! I went to the nearby Micro Center, and after consulting with the salesman, purchased the Inspiron 5579. It worked right out of the box and was very responsive. It has an I7 processor which is more than adequate for my type of use. I am very pleased with my purchase!SoCalStephen
Overall a good computer but not perfect
the model I purchased had 16gb of ram and the 550gb SSD. I am very happy with performance. I have been Dell customer for many years and I was happy with the Dell experience. There were three things however that kept this from being the perfect experience: 1) I can only hook up one external monitor. This was a serious drawback as I am used to connecting two external monitors and working on 3 screens. I won't buy another Inspiron again because of this. 2) The Page up/down home and end keys are doubled up with the arrow keys so that you have to hold down a the FN key for that functionality. This is incredibly annoying. 3) You cannot turn off the haptic touch pad. With the small keyboard, I am constantly accidentally brushing against the pad and causing unexpected behavior. If I have a mouse plugged in, I want to be able to shut the pad off. All this said though, I am happy with the computer. Oh, this is my first two in one and I love the touch screen. That much is awesome.Dan B.
